Girls Varsity Volleyball · Volleyball Advances to State Championship Match

The NCA Lady Crusaders have had a thrilling end of the season capturing a share of the region title and now advancing all the way through the playoffs to get to the State Championship Game!  Coach Brian Elrod has been thrilled with his team’s effort and intensity down the stretch.  “We have brought it every night and our seniors have all done a great job leading our underclassmen,” stated Elrod.  The win against Palmetto Christian two weeks ago was one of the most entertaining volleyball matches ever played at NCA and it was a truly a rite of passage for the Crusader Volleyball program.  “That is a hump we needed to clear. Our players really bought into everything we needed to do to make this accomplishment a reality,” claimed Elrod.

This past weekend the Crusaders went on a tear in the State Playoffs in Myrtle Beach.  They downed Shannon Forest 2-1, Christian Academy 2-0, and then Shannon Forest again 2-0.  The wins brought the Crusaders their first Lower State Championship and first appearance in the SCISA AA State Championship.  The matchup tonight will be against Spartanburg Christian in what many consider to be a true David vs. Goliath matchup.  Spartanburg Christian has not lost a game this season and has won multiple state championships in a row.  On any given day, the Crusader faithful realize anything can happen though and the volleyball team is aiming to make Northside history again tonight.   There have been major upsets all through the years in all types of sports and the Crusader coaching staff recognizes that tonight is going to take one of those moments.  “SCA is really good but we can beat them.  One of our biggest challenges has been to make sure our players understand that we are going up there to try to win the match,” Elrod exclaimed.

The entire student body is fired up about the title game and a fan bus is lined up to transport many of the NCA students up to the game to help cheer on our Lady Crusaders.  Tonight’s matchup will be streamed live online so if you cannot attend, click here for the 7pm start:
