On October 3rd, the Cross Country Team participated in the Shamrock Invitational, hosted by Eau Claire at Owens Field in Columbia, SC. The Varsity Girls continue to look strong; they finished second overall in the race behind Cardinal Newman. Sophomores Ella Jeffrey and Bayleigh Womack have proven to be a strong dynamic duo for the team all season. The Shamrock Invitational was no different as both received medals as Jeffrey placed 4th overall while Womack placed 9th overall, respectively. Junior Kaitlynn Ford continues to be a huge asset for the team as well, as she narrowly missed finishing in the top ten alongside her teammates; Ford finished 11th in the race overall. Natalie Walke and Victoria Thomas rounded out the Varsity race for the Crusaders with Walke finishing 15th overall, and Thomas finishing 23rd overall, respectively.
Over on the Boys Varsity squad, seventh grader William Cochrane ran a personal best time of 21:45.98, which is the fastest 5K time by any Crusader runner this season. After a rough start to the season, seventh grader Tyler Shick rebounded had his best race of the year, finishing third on the team for the Crusaders with a season best time of 24:55.19.
For the JV Girls, Lydia Harper led the way. Harper has improved tremendously over the course of the season after joining the team in mid-August. She finished with a time of 27:52.36 and finished 11th overall in the race, respectively. Lilli Moore and Maddie McHenry posted their best times of the season as well.
For the JV Boys, Trenton Manzi was the lone Crusader runner in the race. Manzi finished with his second best time of the season, representing the Crusaders well.
The Crusaders will take part in Leo’s Pride Race which will be completed virtually before competing in the State Meet at Heathwood Hall on October 31st.
