Coed Varsity Cross Country · Cross Country Team Gains Valuable Experience

The Crusaders Cross Country team gained valuable experience on Saturday, August 29th as they competed against other schools for the first time this season at the Palmetto State Classic. Ella Jeffrey led the Varsity Girls Team with a 5K time of 23:58. Twins Sian and Selah Cantave made huge improvements on their times from the Northside Race to the Finish 5K as they finished second and third on the team with sub-25 minute times respectively. The rest of the team had a strong showing as well.

The Varsity Boys team continues to be led by 7th grader William Cochrane, who finished the race with a time of 24:40. Newcomer and 6th grader Noah Greene continues to show improvement along with the rest of the team. J.T. Wiggins had an inspiring return to competitive action on Saturday morning. After not participating in a 5K race against other schools in nearly a year, Wiggins shined at the Palmetto State Classic as he finished third on the team with a race time of 27:20. Wiggins has worked extremely hard to get back to running, and this was a huge achievement in his comeback attempt!

5th grader Deven Howard led the JV Crusaders Girls team with a time of 28:49.

In the Middle School 2-Mile Race, 5th grader Seth Cantave finished 10th overall with a time of 14:19.

The Crusaders have work to do in order to reach their goals for this season, but there were a lot of positives to takeaway from the Palmetto State Classic. The Crusaders do not have a race next week after a schedule shakeup, but they will look to continue making strides at their next meet at Lexington High School (Pelican’s Invitational) on Wednesday September 9th.
