The Northside Christian Academy Girls Golf program is quickly improving this fall. The team finished 3rd in their opening match at Mid Carolina and have improved steadily since. The Lady Crusaders have two outstanding senior players, Maryn Brewer and Caroline Bendenbaugh. Last week, NCA played Wilson Hall and Hammond at Northwoods Golf Course and they notched their first team win! This is an even more impressive accomplishment considering this is the first year Northside has made a full girls team. Beating the SCISA 3A schools was huge for Crusader Golf as Maryn Brewer lead the team with a score of 41 (2nd place individually). Caroline Bedenbaugh was close behind registering a 50. The total team talley for Northside was 222, followed by Hammond and Wilson Hall at 265 and 246 respectively.
Brewer, who is a multi-sport standout at NCA, also came in second with a score of 41 at Oak Hills last week against Heathwood Hall and Hammond (2nd place team finish). Coach Glenn Smith stated, “Our program is growing not only with the growth of our seniors but there is also a lot of interest coming up in our middle school. Mackenzie Litton, Annie Nagel and Madelyn Stover are all very good players for their age (7th grade).” The Crusaders also have 5th grader Logan Dailey playing and Smith mentions her future in the same breath as former Crusader State Champion Carson Youngblood. Coach Smith adds, “Logan is one of the best 5th graders I have seen, and she has only been playing golf for four months!”
NCA plays at Woodcreek on Wednesday, September 18 vs Cardinal Newman and Spring Valley. The SCISA State Tournament will then be at Woodcreek on October 7-8.
